Mistletoe in the City Handmade for Christmas Book 3 edition by Amber Daulton Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I received a e-copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.
This is the second book I’ve read by this author, the first being “Lightning Over Bennett Ranch.” And once again I enjoyed the briefness of the author’s writing where she basically removes all of the fluff which is contained in basically everything we read.
What does a young woman of 21, Krista, do after she’s forced to move back into her parent’s home after the explosive end of the relationship she had with her now ex-lover when he found himself a new love interest and literally threw her into the streets from the apartment they once shared?
What does she do when she once again must live under their house rules including a ten o’clock curfew? And what does she do when she discovers her high school heartthrob, Derek, is now working in the housing complex her parents live in?
Seeing him there creates a situation where she’s emotionally transported back to her days into high school where she had been secretly in love with him, and he with her. Both these individuals are now grown adults with strong feelings for each other which neither can suppress. Each one must prove to the other that their love is for real without the fear of something coming between them, and begins to blossom into reality the night they kiss each other under the mistletoe.
The writing and dialogue is real and at times hot. This is the first real erotica romance novel I’ve read since becoming a Book Reviewer in August of last year and I’m looking into reading some more, which I hope will be as good as this one.
I’m happy to give this novella 5 STARS.
This short novella is a great little dash of hot holiday romance. It manages to squeeze in a whole buncha (professional term) emotions into its small bundle, and works perfectly in the short story format.
I really liked both of the main characters, Krista and Derek, but I'd be lying if I didn't say that Derek was largely the reason why I enjoyed this story. He is just how I like my men tattooed, pierced, and a bit rough around the edges. I don't blame Krista for crushing on him in school, nor for wanting to move into an apartment building in his vicinity? Yum. Definite yum.
It's well written, with a good flow and a well-progressing story that has just the right amount of a Christmassy feel to it to make it great to read this holiday season.
Another thing I really liked this book is the little bonus treats after the story was over. This story is book three in the Handmade for Christmas series, which is well represented by the fact that Krista sells handmade jewelry and sweet treats at a craft show for the season. I was pleasantly surprised to find both a recipe for Easy Chocolate Fudge and instructions on how to make Snowflake Earrings. It was a nice touch to the "handmade" feel of the book.
I recommend this to anyone who enjoys contemporary romances featuring deliciously inked and pierced men, or who wants just a little nibble of steamy holiday cheer.
Thanks to the author who provided me with a copy in exchange for my honest review.
This was my first book by Amber Daulton and I can't wait to read more.
My only complaint about this book was that it wasn't long enough. I really wanted more about these two characters and their relationship. It was well written and fun to read. A great holiday themed read.
Krista has recently broken up with a cheating boyfriend and needs a new apartment. Little does she know that the apartment she falls in love with is owned by the mother of the boy she lusted after in high school -- who now lives at the complex and does maintenance work. Krista doesn't know if she can handle living at the same apartment complex as her high school crush. But when she finally sees him, he has some surprises for her. A nice Christmas romance.
This is a modern romance and an enjoyable read. When Krista Hartley gets a new apartment she finds a man she knew in high school is the maintenance man, Derek Weston is also a man she definitely wants to get to know better. Of course there are a few problems, like any relationship. I like the writing style by this author and although the book is short it is a complete read and it looks like it is also a part of a series that readers of romance will enjoy. warning, a bit explicit.
