Oh boy, where should I start.....

This is an easy read and I was devouring it, however there was just too many issues in this for me. Starting with the pacing, it moves way too fast to even know how much time has gone by between scenes or chapters. The way it was written, one minute the virus breaks out and then the next paragraph one of the main characters escapes in a car and is already worrying that it might have spread to his family. Um, how? It just happened in this one building you were in and you escaped, how the heck could it reach your family already? Especially since it first broke out in Area 51 and you were there to see it.

The actions of characters and the scenes in the story just don't match, causing it to not flow right for me. Like when the outbreak finally reached the outside world and then the next chapter all of a sudden they're all badass and know how to survive in this zombie infested world. The transition just didn't feel right. Nothing in this book felt right.....

What definitely didn't feel right was the silly love triangle or the romance in general. It felt like Phoenix just met Cullen and didn't trust him and then the next paragraph they're having relationship drama.....Like, what?

You just met and now all of a sudden you have crazy feelings for each other. Phoenix was so hot and cold, one minute she's into him and the next she can't trust him and I'm like "But you just met each other two chapters ago! How the heck are you having relationship drama?".....it got to me as you can see....

Seriously, throughout I was trying to figure out how much time went by between chapters or even paragraphs. Transitioning between scenes was like whiplash, it never felt right and it annoyed me. I seriously feel like it needs to go through another round of edits just to fix the pacing problem.

Overall I was hoping for an awesome zombie read but instead I got.....well, it definitely wasn't awesome. I don't know what I was expecting, that summary tells nothing of the book but just how the characters feel and what they were like before the outbreak and the outbreak happens very early in the book, so yeah. Also, this became really repetitive once the virus happened and I couldn't help but roll my eyes. I also knew who the traitor was in the group so it bugged me that Phoenix didn't realize sooner, it was so obvious.

Into the Darkness Darkness Falls Series Book One eBook Kira Adams Joanne LaRe Thompson Reviews

3.5 stars

I got this free on for a limited time and I would like to thank the author for making that possible. So here's my honest review...

It was fast paced and a page turner. Even though this is another zombie/apocalyptic story, we have characters from different walks of life who banded together to survive.

Initially there's Ike from the US government, then Phonix, a random rebellious girl who later finds out she's adopted, Rian, Phoenix's sister, and other characters we meet along the way. There's a sudden outbreak and the story stems from there. It's the government's actions that came to bite them in the ass.

I admire the concept and zombies, or their term, "biters" aren't the only enemy. There were also the Denegerates (yes, spelled with a capital D), whom are former prisoners trying to take over the world (the US).

Said prisoners were released in the hopes that they could be infected and eventually perish; unfortunately they're smart and could survive so Phoenix and the gang needed to stay away from them as well.

So I was wondering why Ike and Phoenix didn't arm in any way at least one or two of the Degenerates. I mean come on! Didn't they have weapons?! I just felt that it's stupid to just let them loot and get away cause its a dog eat dog world in those trying times.

Due to certain events, Phoenix has become reckless and stupid. Specially when she really wasn't in the proper condition to drive and she insisted. She made out to be a super girl in this novel after surviving the outbreak, being a natural at swords and other weapons, and most importantly being immune to the bite. I gotta warn you folks that this one has a cliffhanger.

The writing style was simple and concise, so it was easy to finish. The action scenes weren't quite polished, there's a potential romance between Phoenix and another guy which felt forced, just to give some romance at a time of war, something to that effect.

For those looking for a more exciting read similar to this genre, I highly recommend Jonathan Maberry.
One star for effort. Poor dialogue skills by the writer. I felt like there was a constant narrative telling me how everyone was feeling. If you have good dialogue skill all the tiresome narration is obsolete. I general story was lacking as well. The end of humanity and the water and electricity are still working? The degenerates can find them from state to state? The how and why specifics are wishy washy. I almost couldn't finish it.
We meet Phoenix Blue as she’s headed out on a date. It was a blind date, there is an early curfew due to an outbreak of epic proportions, but she’s a rebel. Her date wasn’t her usual fanfare, but she didn’t care. The next day she went home and all kinds had broken loose. She meets up with Ike, who was at the facility that was showing the virus, when it broke out and spread like wildfire. They pick up Harlan and Jerrica and Cullen along the way.

There’s so much more than I’m going to go into here. Needless to say that our little group has something special that many want to get their hands on and they will stop at nothing to get their hands on it.

I liked the story well enough. My problem with it is the pacing. It’s pretty choppy for me and sometimes a character that’s with them isn’t mentioned for several chapters. This makes me wonder if they’re still with them or if they’d died or whatever, and suddenly their there again. Otherwise, the story is good and has lots of promise.

This is the first book I’ve read by Ms. Adams. I’ve heard about several of her others being tear-jerkers and I’m not a fan of springing leaks. I am glad to say that this one doesn’t invite tears, however, so if you’re like me, this is a boon for you too!
